30 Ballintemple Road, Newry, Co Armagh, BT35 8LQ

This is a single-storey, two-bay vernacular house situated on the eastern slope of Slieve Gullion, overlooking the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The house, aligned north-south, is likely to have been built between 1800 and 1819 and is recorded on the 1835 Ordnance Survey map. The building’s value in 1862 was only 5 shillings, a figure that remained consistent in subsequent valuations.

The main facade faces east, with a natural slate roof covering the right bay and corrugated metal to the left. Wet-dashed walls are present throughout. Each gable features a wet-dashed chimney, and tile skews separate the bays. A monopitched windbreak porch with a natural slate roof and a t+g (tongue and groove) sheeted door is located at the left end of the right bay. Adjacent to the porch is a timber top-hung casement window with a concrete cill. The left bay has a metal-framed casement window positioned slightly left of centre. Both gable ends are blank. An outbuilding, lower and more shallow than the main house, abuts the left gable of the house and is covered with a corrugated metal roof, featuring a doorway to the left of centre. A small walled yard sits to the front of the house. The rear elevation is blank and built into a bank. The left gable and rear elevation of the building are blank. The building was once noted as derelict.
