Clonlum South Cairn, Ballintemple Road, Newry, Co Armagh

This is a rare and significant survival of a Neolithic burial chamber, dating from approximately 5000 to 2500 BC. It is located in a field on the east side of Ballintemple Road, near Newry, County Armagh. The burial chamber is set into a sub-rectangular platform, about 1.2 metres high, constructed of random rubble fieldstones and now covered with grass. The single chamber’s interior is defined by large granite slabs and is partially sunk into the ground's surface; it would originally have been entirely covered. Two large capstones are positioned above the chamber, with one having slipped to one side. A large boulder situated on the south edge of the mound may represent a dislodged third capstone.
