Description
One in a group of five three-storey/ two-bay terraced houses fronting south side of Sandys Street. Pitched artificial slate roof with cement rendered chimney at left. Semicircular metal rainwater goods to facade with down pipe to right (shared with no.18). Rear pitch has plastic rainwater goods with downpipe to right. Walls of street façade painted line render, with raised eaves course and raised painted base course. Main entrance, at right comprises a four-panel modern timber door with narrow transom light over. Opening is flanked by two painted render bands with bracketed and moulded entablature. At left is a single 1/1 sliding sash window with exposed box. There are three irregularly spaced identical window openings at first and second floors; the right-hand ones are in line with door, and the top floor ones are diminished in height. All window openings have stop-end chamfered reveals and granite cills. All the upper floor windows were being replaced at time of survey. Left and right gables are party walls with adjoining properties (HB 16/28/104B and HB16/28 /107 respectively). Rear elevation is undergoing extensive refurbishment work. All windows have been removed. After being visited in December 1997, the rear of this building was then described as:- “ the rear elevation is painted and rendered in cement. There are two doorways to ground floor, leading to rear yard within which a modern extension is currently being built; the right hand opening was once a window, but has been enlarged. Directly above the latter is a 1/1 top hung window, and at second floor a two-pane casement window. There is the ghost of a two storey mono-pitched roofed return on left bay, with a door opening at first half landing, and a small window opening above on second half landing. Windows to rear elevation have no cills and are in the process of being replaced at time of survey. Rear yard is enclosed to rear by steep grass bank.”
