Telephone kiosk at, The Harbour, Kilkeel, Newry, Co Down, BT34 4AU

A concrete telephone kiosk dating probably from the post-war period, located at the east end of the outer south quay in Kilkeel, opposite the repair slipway and against the north face of the quay wall. The kiosk measures 1.5 metres square and 2.4 metres high, with a flat concrete roof and rendered cement walls. It has a door on the west face and small square windows on the north and east faces, although neither the door nor windows now survive. The south wall is blank. The word ‘Telephone’ is rendered in raised capitals over the north and west openings. Originally installed as a public phone, it was primarily used by fish buyers attending fish auctions at the quayside. The kiosk was shown on an Ordnance Survey map from 1949. It is now disused and recorded as derelict.
