Costume House, Springhill, Springhill Road, Moneymore, Magherafelt, Co Londonderry

A mid-18th century stone outbuilding, originally part of the Springhill Estate farm complex. It is a long, approximately 4-bay, half-story building with a gabled slate roof. The south-east elevation features a single door with a fanlight, followed by three four-pane double-hung sash windows. The exterior walls are harled (roughcast) and whitewashed, with a half-round metal gutter and a single downpipe. The slate roof overhangs the stonework. A twelve-pane window is set into the north-east gable at attic level. This gable also incorporates a gateway with two large, square stone gate piers, rebated internally to receive gates. The piers are capped with pyramidal shapes, whitewashed on two sides. The north-east elevation has a single six-pane fixed window, partially obscured by vegetation.

The costume house, along with a northwest wing of the forecourt and a small toilet block, encloses a garden, predominantly lawn and with a path leading to the farmyard. The garden is neatly planted with small trees. The fourth, northwest side is defined by a rubble stone wall. Within the garden, the remains of a cast iron water pump are visible.

The building, formerly an outbuilding, is likely to date from between 1760 and 1779. An Ordnance Survey map from 1832 depicts the building. Currently, it functions as a gallery or museum. It exhibits architectural interest due to its ornamentation, plan form, setting and group value, and holds local historical interest.
