Pump, By 16 Main Street, Castledawson, Co. Londonderry

This is a rotary water pump of 1880 to 1899, situated at 16 Main Street, Castledawson, County Londonderry. It is a good example of its type and occupies a prominent position in the village centre, where it once provided the only source of street drinking water.

The pump has a column that flares outwards and is decorated with flutes. The cap is similarly fluted and topped with a pointed finial. It features a spout lug but lacks a pedestal. The pump is located in a visible roadside position.

The pump is marked on Ordnance Survey maps from 1906 and 1926 (held at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, reference PRONI OS 10/5/42/6/1 and 2), suggesting it may predate 1907.
