Woodview Cottage, 51 Cookstown Road, Moneymore, Magherafelt

Woodview Cottage, formerly a pleasing and characterful thatched cottage, stood on Cookstown Road, Moneymore, Magherafelt, within the townland of Coltrim. The cottage's construction is dated between 1820 and 1839. It was demolished around 1980 and replaced with a modern bungalow. The original cottage was shown on an Ordnance Survey map from 1832, and had been in the same family for at least two centuries. It was four bays long, with an off-centre door and porch, two windows on one side, and a single window on the other. Gable chimneys were present, along with a further chimney on the ridge, centrally positioned between the two windows. The owner cultivated wheat for thatching the cottage, and the final thatcher, from Portglenone, was remembered as costing £70 for three days' work. The building demonstrated vernacular characteristics.
