Graveyard at Ballykeel, Low Road, Islandmagee, Larne, Co Antrim

The graveyard at Ballykeel is a site of historic interest containing the ruins of an ancient church. It is a small graveyard situated in a rural location, accessed by a pair of stone gate piers topped with an iron gate. The enclosure is bounded by earth banks and contains the remains of a rectangular church constructed from rubble stone. No significant architectural features survive. Numerous headstones are present throughout the graveyard, including within the church ruins, but these do not possess exceptional historical or architectural merit. The graveyard is located in open countryside beside a main road.

The site is depicted on an Ordnance Survey map dating to 1831. The ruins represent the remains of St John Ransevyn church, which was abandoned in the 16th century, replaced by the new church of St John at Ballyharry, built around 1600. The church ruin is recognized as an ancient monument (SMR: ANT47:3). The graveyard is a former and current graveyard. Construction likely occurred before 1600.
