Graveyard, Tower Road, Carnlough, Ballymena, Co Antrim

This is a small, roughly rectangular graveyard dating from at least the early 19th century, located in a pleasant, rural setting near Carnlough, Ballymena, County Antrim. The graveyard is situated on a hillside amidst trees and is approached from the main road by a short lane leading to the entrance gate. The original entrance features looped iron railings with finialled iron posts, flanked by a modern concrete post and wire fencing. The graveyard itself is grassed and contains two low stone-walled enclosures constructed of basalt rubble, a sunken, smoothly rendered vault within an iron-railed enclosure, and various memorial slabs. The earliest memorial stone present dates from 1816, although the graveyard appears on an Ordnance Survey map of 1832. Historical records from the 1830s indicate that the graveyard was exclusively for the burial of Roman Catholics. It also contains a monument. The ownership category is charity.
