Telephone Kiosk, Garron Road, Carnlough, Ballymena, Co Antrim

This is a K6 type telephone kiosk, also known as a 'Jubilee' kiosk, dating from approximately 1940 to 1959. Designed in 1935 by the architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and first produced in 1936, these kiosks were widely introduced across the United Kingdom. This example is constructed from cast-iron, featuring small-paned sides and door, all glazed with glass, and surmounted by a shallow, domical roof. It retains the 'Tudor' crown motif, indicating its construction or relocation occurred before 1953 when this design feature was replaced with St. Edward's crown. The kiosk is situated on the inland side of the Antrim Coast Road, at a scenic location. It represents a pre-war model of telephone kiosk, typically replaced by more modern designs, but preserved for its contribution to particularly sensitive or historic settings. It is currently used as a telephone kiosk and is located in the townland of Galboly Lower.
