Harbour, Garron Road, Carnlough, Ballymena, Co Antrim

This is a small harbour of masonry construction, built of roughly squared basalt rubble and limestone, with a later concrete top edge. The harbour is aligned north to south, with the entrance at the south end. The approach to the entrance is lined with rocks, and there is a concrete slipway on the west side. The harbour stands in a rural area on a rocky foreshore, with rough grass immediately surrounding it. It is fenced with timber posts and wire. A rough cement screed path leads from the main road to a small slipway, and a modern tubular steel gate is flanked by curved limestone rubble front boundary walls.

The precise date of construction is unknown, but the harbour appears on an Ordnance Survey map of 1857. It is reputedly built by the Marchioness of Londonderry, whose summer residence, Garron Tower, stands above, and probably dates from the late 1840s to the early 1850s, coinciding with improvements she was making in the area. The harbour possesses industrial archaeological interest.
