Court House, Victoria Road, Larne, Co Antrim

This Edwardian courthouse, built between 1900 and 1919, was designed by the local architect Samuel P. Close. It retains original features on its entrance façade but has undergone significant alterations elsewhere.

The building is a gabled structure of two storeys, designed in a freely interpreted Classical style. The main gable features a large, segmental recess with rusticated detailing, containing three windows and surmounted by blind panels. Above this is a segmental pediment over a Tuscan-pilastered doorway leading to a porch located on the east side. The walls are rendered, and the roof is slated. A modern gabled extension has been added to the rear.

The courthouse stands on a detached site within the town, set back slightly from the pavement and originally enclosed by a low stone boundary wall and railings. Modern security fencing now surrounds the property. It is situated between two-storey terrace houses on its left side and a detached former cottage hospital, now converted to offices, on its right.
