Coombe House, 160 The Roddens, Larne, Co Antrim, BT40 1PN

Coombe House is a modern, flat-roofed International Style house constructed circa 1968 by the Larne architect Gerald Smith for his own residence. The building is laid out on a split level and is constructed of concrete bricks with concrete cills. It features metal pivoting windows above large timber fixed lights, tongued and grooved vertical weather boarding, plain plywood panels, and an asphalt roof. The first floor is supported by a cantilevered concrete slab. The house occupies an elevated site set back from the main road, affording distant views over the town. It is flanked by two similar houses of the same date and style, although these have undergone inappropriate alterations or display inconsistencies in their design.
