Description

Gardenmore House was a house built between 1820 and 1839. It stood on Pound Street, Larne, in the Town Parks townland, County Antrim. The building was a rectangular structure arranged around a central courtyard. The main elevation was single-storey, and a basement was exposed on the other sides. The walls were constructed from regular coursed, rock-faced blackstone, with stone quoins and a platband at ground floor level. The roof was slated, featuring a moulded brick frieze and a stone-modillioned eaves cornice, and a decorated gutter. The entrance was recessed within an elliptical arched opening, flanked by patterned pilasters rising to a moulded archivolt, and included a panelled door with side lights. Octagonal chimneys were paired. The building was originally in very poor condition.

Gardenmore House is shown on the 1832 Ordnance Survey map, located beside a rope walk. It was the residence of Captain A.W. Stafford in the 1880s. Between 1957 and 1959, Larne Technical College (HB06/11/012) was constructed within its grounds, situated between the house and the main road. The house was demolished in the 1970s or 1980s and the site is now occupied by single-storey educational buildings.
