Description

This is a former Royal Ulster Constabulary station, built around 1925 and dating from the early years of the Northern Ireland state. It was designed by the architects of the Northern Ireland Office of Works, under the direction of its chief architect, Roland Ingleby Smith, and is one of a group of standard designs, or variations thereof, used for police barracks across Northern Ireland in the 1920s and 1930s. The building is a good example of this important building type. Parallel examples exist at Seaforde, County Down, and Bushmills, County Antrim. It is now used as a private house. The architectural interest lies in its style, proportions, ornamentation, and setting. It also possesses social, cultural, and economic importance connected to the history of Northern Ireland.
