Description

This is a single-storey Orange Hall located to the southeast of Wattle Bridge in the townland of Annaghmore Glebe, near Newtownbutler, County Fermanagh. Likely constructed between 1880 and 1899, the building’s origins can be traced to a dwelling house shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1834 and 1857. By 1907, it was explicitly identified as Wattlebridge Orange Hall on Ordnance Survey maps. While recorded as a dwelling house in the 1862 Griffith Valuation, the precise date of its conversion to a hall is unknown.

The hall is aligned east-west and has undergone significant alteration and, more recently, partial destruction by fire, resulting in the loss of original features. It is currently owned by the Orange Order and remains in use as a hall. The roof is pitched and originally clad in natural slate, though much of it was destroyed in the fire, and features a brick chimney to the right gable. It has overhanging eaves with a timber eaves board and soffit, and modern plastic rainwater goods. The walls are pebble-dashed over a cement-rendered base course. All windows are top-hung casements with narrow cement-rendered reveals, although these openings are now largely covered with timber or corrugated metal. The principal north-facing elevation has a door centrally positioned to the right and three windows, one to its right and two to its left. A modern timber-sheeted door and a window are present on the left gable. The rear elevation is largely obscured by a return section, while the exposed right section of the main block is blank. The return section has a monopitched natural slate roof, with a blank south face. The right cheek of the return features a tongue-and-groove-sheeted door to the left and a window opening to the right. The left cheek of the return has a window at centre, and the right gable is blank.
