Description
This is a small post office kiosk and cottage, built between 1940 and 1959. The post office itself is a tiny, mono-pitch corrugated iron building, approximately 2.5 by 2 metres in plan. It is painted red and has a sheeted door with a small rectangular fanlight above, accompanied by a window. A sign above the door reads "AGHANLOO POST OFFICE." A post box, bearing the inscription "Elizabeth Regina," is set into the front wall on one side. In front of the post office stands a red telephone kiosk, embossed with a crown above the word "telephone," and identified as kiosk No. 6, a model produced between 1936 and 1968. The post office was established in 1950 by the owner's sister, who had previously worked at its earlier location about one kilometer west of the current site. It forms an interesting group with the adjacent cottage.
