Cather Vault, Ballykelly Old Graveyard, Walworth Road, Ballykelly, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49 9JU

A late Georgian neo-classical mausoleum of national and local historic interest, likely built between 1800 and 1819, stands within the old walled graveyard of Ballykelly, close to the ruins of a 17th-century plantation church. The mausoleum, constructed in ashlar sandstone, is part of the south wall of the church ruins. It was renovated in 1849, commemorated by a datestone, and features clasping pilasters at each corner, surmounted by low-pitched pediments. A cornice decorates the top of each wall below the pediments, with boldly sculpted acroteria providing floral ornamentation at the corners above the pilasters. Two symmetrically placed, walled-up openings are located on the north wall, framed by moulded architraves exhibiting a quasi-Egyptian/Greek style. The mausoleum’s architectural interest lies in its style, proportions, and ornamentation, and its setting within the wider graveyard contributes to its significance. The Cather family were a prominent plantation family, adding to the structure's local historical context. The surrounding area includes numerous headstones and table stones.
