Credit Union Building, 304 Seacoast Road, Bellarena, Limavady, Co Londonderry, BT49 0JY

This is a charming late Georgian estate cottage, built of basalt between 1820 and 1839, and later adapted for use as a bank. The building is of 1½ storeys, with a central stone chimney and a natural slate roof with good overhangs. A gable entry features a pitched roof porch with low basalt walls, above which is match boarding set in framing. The front façade has two bays and a delightful small central bay window with a hipped slate roof and five lights, internally divided into three by horizontal astragals. A small vertical timber casement is located in the north gable. The basalt is roughly coursed, with some galleting where the vertical joints become too wide. A brown brick single-storey extension, slated and slightly contrasting in material but comparable in tonal value, projects from the rear. A basalt boundary wall extends along two sides, returning along the back of the footwalk along Seacoast Road. The building is set back approximately four metres from the footwalk, and has concrete paving surrounding it and along the side. Basalt walls also define parking facilities to the rear. The original building is included in the listing. The cottage is shown on the 1831 Ordnance Survey sheet and is described as a cottage in "Buildings of North Derry." It is likely an estate cottage and possesses architectural and proportional merit, contributing to local, social, cultural and economic history.
