Description
This is a modest war memorial, erected around the 1920s, located at the end of Quay Road in Ballycastle, County Antrim, opposite the former manor house. While of note, the memorial is not considered to be of special architectural or historical interest, though it is situated within a conservation area.
The memorial consists of a square pedestal, built on a double plinth and a square step with a shallow gabled capping piece featuring an undercut cavetto moulding. Above the pedestal stands a square obelisk of similar height, all constructed of white marble. A small marble wreath is carved into the eastern face of the obelisk. The pedestal is inscribed on four sides with the names of those who died in both World Wars. The memorial sits on a square, stepped base set into red paving stones, which are further set within a sunken, semi-circular garden.
