Description

This is a late Georgian style terrace house located on Quay Road, Ballycastle, dating from the 1820s to the 1830s. It is an eight-bay wide building, with two and three-story sections, and includes a gateway. The building is divided into two parts: a six-bay, three-story section and a two-bay, two-story section.

The six-bay section, starting from the north end, has three boarded-up vertical windows, a boarded-up four-panel door with glazed upper panels and glazed side screens, and a boarded-up fanlight. It features panelled pilasters on either side, a frieze, and a cornice, along with two boarded-up vertical windows. The first floor has six boarded-up vertical windows centrally positioned over the openings below. The second floor has three boarded-up vertical windows centred over every other opening below. The two-bay section has a boarded-up panelled door with a moulded architrave and one boarded-up vertical window. The first floor has two boarded-up vertical windows centred over the openings below. The walls are smooth, rendered, and unpainted, with lines indicating original details. There is a half-round gutter, two downpipes, and a natural slated roof with three chimneystacks. The south gable is also smooth, rendered, and unpainted. To the south of the exposed gable is a three-centred arched gateway, smooth rendered and lined. The building line sits back from the footwalk, mirroring the alignment of numbers 49 and 51 and the Manor House.

The building is situated within a conservation area and has been vacant for some time. It was formerly owned by the McMichael family, who currently operate a pharmacy at 10 Ann Street. Historical records include Ordnance Survey maps from 1832, revised in 1856, and from 1904. While the building has undergone renovations, it has resulted in a loss of its original architectural and historical character and it is not considered to possess special architectural or historic interest.
