Description
A rectangular stone built and slated former flax mill. A 3 bay long, originally 2 storey gabled sandstone random rubble structure. W side, which faces towards the Owenrigh River, has a single door opening (door missing) with wooden lintol, to each side rectangular window openings, one louvred. Above the louvred window a narrow door opening the threshold of which is on the wooden lintol. Above the other 2 ground floor openings there are 2 square louvred openings again with wooden lintols. There is a corbel course under the slate eaves in long lengths of sandstone. The wall is built of rough random rubble sandstone. The Bangor blue smallish slates are in poor repair with some holes. At each gable there are crude insitu concrete barges, the one at the N gable partially collapsed. Ridge tile, no gutters. The N gable has a large high square headed opening, probably enlarged to suit lorries or modern farm machinery. Trimming of opening done in concrete blocks. There is evidence on this gable that another pitched roof abutted it. The E wall has no opening and is part built into the side of glen behind it. Against the S gable abuts a corrugated iron roofed store. The mill building is sited parallel to the glenside with the millrace cut into the slope behind. Adjacent to the mill is the renovated dwelling of the present owner and the Owenrigh River.
