Description
This building is one of seven houses in a terrace located on the north side of Bridge Street in Portadown. The terrace was likely built between 1860 and 1879, although it does not appear on the 1862 Ordnance Survey map; initial estimates suggested construction around 1840. The building retains no features of architectural or historic interest and has been subdivided into an office on the ground floor and a flat above.
The building is three stories and two bays wide, with a pitched roof covered in artificial slate, featuring paired corbels to the overhanging timber eaves. A modern brick chimney is situated at the right end of the ridge. The front elevation, facing south towards Bridge Street, is rendered with smooth cement and contains two windows on the upper floors. All windows are modern units with top-hung transoms. The ground floor includes a modern eight-panel door with a transom light and a pair of reproduction timber consoles supporting a small timber canopy, alongside a single window to the right, which is offset on the upper floor. The east gable abuts the adjacent property at HB14/12/004C, while the west gable abuts HB14/12/004A.
The rear, facing north, is also rendered with smooth cement and features a two-story return. A modern window is present on the ground floor to the left. Similar modern windows are located above on the first and second floors, with an additional stairwell window between the first and second floors to the right. The rear return has a pitched artificial slate roof. The end gable, facing an alleyway, has a modern ground-floor window with a grille, while the right cheek adjoins the yard wall and the left cheek has a modern door and window at ground level, with two modern windows on the first floor. A wire mesh gate provides access to the rear yard from the alleyway.
Original documentation indicates that the properties initially had slated roofs, brick walls with contrasting brick dressings around windows, sash windows with horns, and panelled doors with plain transoms. Modern windows were noted in a 1978 survey slide, and the 1969 survey card confirmed this.
