Description

This building is one of seven in a terrace of late 19th-century houses on the north side of Bridge Street, Portadown. It was originally a house, and is now used as an office on the ground floor with commercial accommodation above.

The terrace was built around 1860 to 1879, though it does not appear on the 1862 Ordnance Survey map; its architectural details suggest a late 19th-century construction date. The building is two bays wide and three stories high, with a pitched natural slate roof, paired corbels to the overhanging timber eaves, and a single chimney to the right end of the ridge. The front elevation faces south towards Bridge Street. The walls are painted brick, with slightly advanced brick architraves and masonry cills to all windows. All windows are 2/2 sliding sash windows with horns. The ground floor features a panelled door at the left, and a modern single-paned shop window to the right, which is offset compared to the upper floors. The door is supported by a pair of timber consoles and a small timber canopy; the shop window has a concrete cill, matching reproduction corbels and a canopy above. The right gable abuts the adjacent property at HB14/12/004G, and the left gable abuts HB14/12/004E. The rear (north) elevation projects further than the other buildings in the terrace (numbers 109-117) and is of red brick, completely abutted to the ground floor by a rear extension that fills the rear yard. At first and second floor on the left are single 6/6 sliding sash windows. A 6/6 sliding sash window sits between the ground and first floors, over the extension roof, and a similar window is located between the first and second floors. Historical records indicate the properties originally had slated roofs, brick walls, contrasting brick dressings to the windows, sash windows with horns, and panelled doors with plain transoms.
