Description

This is a three-story, two-bay house located within a terrace of seven late 19th-century houses on the north side of Bridge Street in Portadown, County Armagh. The United Architectural Heritage Society suggests the terrace was built around 1840, although it does not appear on the 1862 Ordnance Survey map. Architectural details suggest a construction date in the late 19th century, likely between 1860 and 1879.

The house has a pitched roof covered in artificial slate, with paired corbels to the advanced timber eaves. A modern brick chimney is located at the right end of the ridge. The external walls are of red brick. The front elevation, facing south onto Bridge Street, has two windows on each of its upper floors. All windows are modern, with slightly advanced yellow brick architraves and masonry cills. They are top-hung units with transoms. The ground floor has a door on the left side and a single window to its right, with the window on the upper floor being offset. The door is six-panelled with a transom light, and is supported by a pair of reproduction timber consoles and a small timber canopy. The east gable abuts the adjacent property at HB14/12/004D, and the west gable abuts the property at HB14/12/004B.

The rear (north) elevation is also of red brick, with a single-story return abutting on the right side. A 1/1 sliding sash window is located at ground floor level on the left side, with similar windows directly above it on the first and second floors. An additional window is positioned between the ground and first floors and above the return extension’s roofline, with a matching window between the first and second floors. A modern extension with a flat roof and rendered walls projects from the rear, featuring a door and window on its left cheek. A lean-to shed with a corrugated metal roof is located in the rear yard, abutting the wall to the alleyway.

Historical records, including surveys from 1969 and 1978, indicate that the house originally had sash windows with horns and panelled doors with plain transoms. The building was delisted on 28 November 2005.
