Description

Aldrin was a two-storey, three-bay house situated on a prominent corner plot at the junction of Hill Street and Mark Street in Lurgan, County Armagh. The building was likely constructed between 1860 and 1879 and was originally used as a house. It was demolished following a fire in 1998.

The house had a gabled slate roof with gable chimneys and dentil eaves. It featured vermiculated stepped quoins, and a moulded, keyed arch above the first-floor windows. Bracketed sills and a sill string were positioned below rusticated stucco, with moulded arches and hoods above two windows and the central door. The windows were likely double-hung without glazing bars. Notable features included well-detailed external stucco work. A 1972 survey noted the date as approximately 1840.

A site visit in 2000 revealed that the fire had destroyed the roof and upper floors, leaving the interior filled with rubble and burnt timber. Parts of the external and internal walls remained, with some reaching the eaves of the gables and parts of the facades. A portico was also still standing. Due to the significant loss of fabric, it was determined that the building was no longer worthy of listing, and it was delisted on 23 November 2007.
