Roman Catholic Graveyard, Eagralougher Road, Loughgall, Co Armagh

This Roman Catholic graveyard occupies a site previously used as a churchyard in the late 18th century. It contains 19th and 20th century graves, largely covered with grass. The graveyard is enclosed on one side by a rubble stone wall, another by a hedge, and at the front by modern railings set upon a low, rendered plinth wall. A small, smooth-rendered stump of freestanding wall remains, representing the ruins of the original late 18th century church.

The graveyard appears on an Ordnance Survey map of 1834, and the original Roman Catholic church, built in 1787, was demolished. According to the Ordnance Survey memoirs from 1835-8, the church was a plain stone building, roughcast, whitewashed, and slated, measuring 68 feet long and 20 feet broad. It initially accommodated approximately 500 people, with an average attendance of 400, although later accounts suggest a capacity of 2000. The 1787 church was replaced by St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in 1912, located nearby to the south. The graveyard is situated in a rural setting, facing a public road with open fields on either side.
