Description

The ruinous remains of a single-story cottage stand on the Loughgall Road in Loughgall, Armagh. The cottage, now completely derelict and overgrown, appears on an Ordnance Survey map from 1834 and is dated to between 1820 and 1839. Originally thatched, the roof remained so until at least 1972. The walls were roughly plastered on a rubble foundation and originally whitened. A central, projecting gabled porch with a simple bargeboard and slated roof featured three double-hung windows with horizontal astragals; a panelled door was situated within the porch between the first and second windows. A hedge enclosed the front garden, and adjacent rubble outbuildings were present on the left-hand side. The cottage was noted to be in poor condition, and measured approximately 60 feet wide. It is now of no special architectural or historic interest.
