Description

The ruins of Newtownards Priory represent a substantial remnant of a 13th-century priory church. The structure was extended during the 14th and 15th centuries, and further rebuilt in the early 17th century with the addition of a tower. This former Dominican priory was founded in the mid-1200s. The north aisle was reconstructed during the early 1600s when the tower was also added. The priory is now under state care and is a Scheduled Monument, receiving the highest level of statutory protection. It is constructed of rubble. The site is also recognized as a monument.
