52 Shore Road, Portaferry, Co Down, BT22 1JZ

52 Shore Road is a plain, modern two-storey terrace house located on the east side of Shore Road, south of Portaferry town centre. It began life as a single-storey dwelling with dormers but was raised to its present height and completely renovated around 1990.

The front façade faces roughly west and is asymmetrical, finished in unpainted lined render. It features an off-centre front doorway with a PVC double door and plain narrow fanlight. Two-pane PVC windows with top hung upper openers and simulated horizontal astragals between double glazing are positioned to the left and right of the doorway, each with concrete cills. The first floor has two similar windows. The rear of the property has been substantially altered by a large modern single-storey extension at ground floor level, with three modern window openings on the main first-floor rear façade, which is finished in what appears to be dry dash. The gabled roof is covered with asbestos slates and incorporates a small rendered chimney stack in the centre with a single pot. PVC gutters and downspouts run along the eaves, with pitched roof and lean-to extensions at the rear.

The site was recorded on Patrick O'Hare's map of Portaferry from 1799, when it was owned by William McAnnally, and appears on Ordnance Survey maps of 1834 and 1860. The building is of little architectural interest and sits within the Portaferry Conservation Area.
