Description
This is a plain and largely unremarkable two-storey terrace of six houses built around 1900. The terrace is located on the southeastern side of Killaughey Road, south of Donaghadee town centre, and sits within a conservation area. The houses are largely identical in appearance, although individual variations exist.
The front of each house features a canted bay window with a hipped roof. Each has a doorway to the right or left of the bay, above which is a simple fanlight. Two windows are positioned on a cill course above the bay windows on the first floor. The rear of the terrace consists of two storeys with gabled returns, and single-storey sections have been added to the rear returns of many of the houses. The roof is covered with Bangor blue slates, and the chimney stacks are largely rendered. All window frames have been replaced with modern ones.
Number 48 has a flat roof to its return and asbestos-free slates to the rear, with the first-floor front facade windows closely spaced. Number 50 also has asbestos-free slates and Velux windows to the rear, and its first-floor windows are almost paired and a PVC front door. Number 52 features a cornice hood supported by brackets over the entrance and a small conservatory to the yard, with widely spaced first-floor front windows (matching the spacing on numbers 54-58). A cast iron skylight is present on the rear roof. Number 54 is similar to number 52 but lacks the conservatory on the yard and has a Velux window to the rear. It also has a brick chimney stack. Number 56 is similar to number 52, but with a modern, partly glazed front door and a dry-dash render finish. Number 58 has a dry-dash render finish, asbestos-free slates to the rear, a taller return, and a lean-to porch at the rear of the main house, and a blank gable. Minor variations are present on the rear facades and returns.
The terrace was likely constructed around 1900.
