Description
19 Church Street, Portaferry
This is a two-storey terrace house on the east side of Church Street, north of Portaferry town centre, set within a conservation area. The building was originally a single-storey dwelling, possibly dating from before 1834, but has been substantially reconstructed since the 1980s when an upper storey was added.
The house presents a modern appearance with rough cast render, PVC windows, and a fibre cement slate pitched roof with a single red brick chimney and one pot. Cast iron gutters and downspout complete the external details. The west-facing front elevation features a modern timber door on the ground floor to the left, with two PVC windows to the right. The upper panes are small, top-hung, and leaded between double glazing. Smooth narrow vertical bands frame either side of the windows and door, with slim concrete cills beneath. A smooth broad course runs above the door and windows across the entire facade, with a smooth painted band at the base simulating a plinth. The first floor has two windows of similar style to those below but broader in proportion.
A large L-shaped flat-roofed extension to the rear was under construction at the time of survey in June 1997. The property retains no original interior features.
