Description
Small picturesque sandstone bridge of c.1850 by Charles Lanyon, spanning a stream within the Ballywalter Park estate. This bridge is situated roughly 100m west of Ballywalter Park House (less than a mile south of the village of Ballywalter) and is partly covered in ivy. The bridge has a segmental arch c.1.5m wide with vermiculated voussoirs and eroded (possibly lionhead) decorative keystones. There are vermiculated quoins to the bases of the end piers also (now partly obscured by greenery) and a cornice runs from the piers over the crown of the arch. The balustrade forms the parapet and has a decorative pierced design between sturdy panelled end piers and a smaller centre pier. Inner face of central pier has shell motif. Piers have blocking stones above cornice.
