Description
The Clydesford Bridge is a simple, rubble-built road bridge likely dating from before 1834, and repaired and strengthened more recently. It crosses the Enler River approximately one mile northwest of Comber. The bridge features two segmental arches and a central pier with a ‘cut water’. Tie rods have been added to the structure. The parapet on the north side appears to have been reconstructed, with the uppermost stones set in an upright, ‘spike-like’ position. A bridge at this location is shown on Ordnance Survey maps from 1833/4 and 1858-60, originally named ‘Knockmashan Bridge’ in 1834. The bridge is of industrial archaeological interest.
