Mossley Bridge, Carnmoney Road North, Carntall, Newtownabbey, Co Antrim

This is a double arched stone bridge, constructed circa 1850. It carries Carmoney Road North over the Belfast to Antrim railway line and the Three Mile Water river, running on a north/south axis. The bridge is of industrial archaeological interest.

The bridge was widened and altered around 2007. This included the removal of both parapet walls and widening to the west elevation using reinforced concrete. The smaller arch over the river has been culverted, and the river itself has been diverted through this culverted section. Recent works have significantly damaged the bridge’s original fabric and appearance; the concrete deck now obscures the west elevation, and the river arch is covered over.
