Description
This group of farm buildings dates to the late Georgian period, approximately between 1800 and 1819. They are of local interest as part of the development of the Glendaragh estate, though their original appearance has been altered in later years.
The buildings are arranged around a rectangular yard. An entrance gateway faces east. The north side of the yard is occupied by a single-storey modern shed with a corrugated iron roof. The south side features a 2-storey gabled range with a slate roof and rendered finish, including ledged timber doors. The west side contains a 2-storey barn constructed of basalt rubble, with a segmental arched opening now partially blocked up to contain a rectangular doorway; a slate roof and an ocular opening in the gable. The main entrance gateway consists of a pair of square piers with smooth cement rendering and a moulded cornice, featuring a modern tubular iron gate.
The buildings are situated a short distance north of Glendaragh House, within the extensive and secluded grounds of the estate. They are surrounded by agricultural land and mature trees. An ice house is located nearby in a field to the north-east.
Originally built as a stable yard associated with Glendaragh House, the buildings appear on an Ordnance Survey map of 1832-3, marking them as a stable yard, and are likely contemporary with the house, which was built around 1805.
