Description

A derelict single-storey stone cottage which is roofless and lies open at front and rear, with smaller gabled outbuildings at each end. Described in the first survey in 1972 as "A harled and whitened cottage, part thatched, part slated. There is one brick chimney. The door is sheeted. There are three sashed windows with vertical divisions on the façade." Front and rear walls are now unwhitened basalt rubble with concrete lintels to openings but with windows missing; one large later rectangular opening in the rear wall is dressed in concrete brickwork. Roof of main cottage now missing. Outbuilding at right-hand end is of basalt rubble, with a corrugated iron roof, an open rectangular doorway, and a small windowless opening in the gable. Outbuilding at the left-hand end has front and rear walls of whitened brickwork, a gable of basalt rubble with brickwork to the top; slated roof with timber barge boards, rotted. SETTING: The building stands in a rural area, facing the public road but set back from it within the grounds of a modern bungalow built near to it; bungalow has imitation stone facing and dry dash render to walls, with a concrete tiled roof.
