Description
This is a 19th-century stone cottage, likely dating between 1860 and 1879, originally thatched but now derelict. It was first recorded on an Ordnance Survey map from 1902 and was not present on the 1857 map. The cottage is a single-story structure, now roofless and open at the front and rear, with smaller gabled outbuildings at each end. Originally, it was described as having harled and whitened walls, with a mix of thatched and slated roofing. It featured one brick chimney, a sheeted door, and three sash windows with vertical divisions on the front façade. The walls are currently unwhitened basalt rubble with concrete lintels over the openings, and the windows are missing. A large, later rectangular opening has been created in the rear wall, finished with concrete brickwork. One outbuilding, to the right, is constructed of basalt rubble with a corrugated iron roof, an open rectangular doorway, and a small, windowless opening in the gable. The outbuilding to the left has front and rear walls of whitened brickwork, a gable of basalt rubble with brickwork to the top, and a slated roof with rotted timber barge boards. The building is situated in a rural location, facing the public road but set back within the grounds of a modern bungalow with imitation stone facing, dry dash render, and a concrete tiled roof. The building is currently used as outbuildings.
