Stables And Wall Abutting North East Corner Of Ruishton House

The stables block and adjoining wall at the northeast corner of Ruishton House were built in 1899 and altered in the mid-20th century. They were likely designed by Mr. Spiller for Stuart Somerville. The structure is made of red brick with a plain clay tile roof and decorative ridge tiles.

The stables are oriented west to east, with the wall connecting to the west front of the house. The west front features one and a half storeys and is gable fronted, topped by a square dovecot with a lead pyramid bell-cast roof and a wrought iron weather vane shaped like a dragon or wyvern. There are three tiers of nesting boxes above a plasterwork panel dated 1899, which includes the initials RMS. The gable end has applied half-timbering, and there are two sets of many-paned casement windows: one above the plasterwork panel and one on the ground floor.

A courtyard addition includes a gabled loft opening that rises through the eaves, while a garage addition on the left side is partially concealed. To the right, there are 16-pane sash windows and a lower brick wing with a louvred vent. The wall on the west front is made of red brick and features crow steps on the left side, which conceal a 20th-century garage addition behind it. The wall is crenellated with saddleback coping and stands almost 2 meters high, with square gate piers supporting late 20th-century double wooden gates. The plasterwork and dovecot create an attractive feature that enhances the west facade of Ruishton House.
