Description
The King's Arms Public House is a late 18th-century establishment located in Crewkerne's Market Square. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with Ham Hill stone dressings, featuring a plinth and stepped stone copings, topped with a slate roof and brick stacks at the gable ends. The building has a three-unit plan and includes a 19th-century rear wing on the left side. It stands two storeys tall and presents a symmetrical five-window range. All windows are 6/6-pane 19th-century sashes set in raised stone surrounds. The central doorway features a raised elliptical arch with imposts and a keystone, along with a plain elliptical overlight above the double doors. To the left of the door, there is a two-light stone-mullioned opening leading to a half-basement. Inside, the space has been much altered, but there is a small open fireplace with a stone lintel located at the left gable end. The building was described as "newly erected" in 1782.
