Description
This is a disused barn, likely built as a threshing barn, dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It features stone rubble walls and a gable-ended double Roman clay tile roof with clay ridge tiles. The barn has a single room plan with a central threshing floor, and the right-hand end previously had a loft above. It is a single storey building that was once lofted. The front is asymmetrical, with a wide doorway to the left of center that has double stable doors, and a narrower door to the right. There is a small gable with a square loft hatch to the right of center. The left gable end includes a pitching opening at the first floor level and an original tiny owl-hole in the apex with a triangular head. The rear elevation has a single narrow doorway. Inside, the original roof structure is unusually complete, consisting of substantial straight principals with straight morticed collars and tie-beams, threaded purlins, and one tier of windbraces.
