Description
Oak Cottage is a cottage dating to 1681. It is constructed from local limestone rubble with a double Roman tile roof and brick end stacks, featuring coped verges. The cottage is arranged in an "L" shape with a symmetrical front facade. It has three bays and three storeys, with ovolo moulded stone mullioned windows of two lights. However, the centre window on the second floor and the third floor both have plain square mullions. A moulded string course runs above the window heads on the ground and first floors. A cutstone plaque above the centre window of the first floor is inscribed "A.H. 1681." A central door opening is sheltered by a 20th-century gabled porch and door. The left return side has five bays with irregular window placement; some windows have semi-circular heads in plain stone surrounds, while others are 19th-century casements.
