Description

No 72, formerly No 55, is a villa dating from around 1840, currently used as a chemist. The building is finished in stucco that has been colourwashed, featuring band courses at the first floor and eaves. It has a hipped Welsh slate roof with a wide eaves overhang and plain rendered chimney stacks at each end. The villa is two stories tall and has three bays. A central projecting stone porch is supported by a pair of attached and a pair of detached very slender fluted Ionic columns. The entablature above the porch features a Greek frieze and is topped with acanthus acroterion type ornament. The original six-panel door has been altered to a half-glazed door. The windows on the ground floor have 12 panes, while those on the first floor have 9 panes. The stone front boundary wall includes two stone gate piers, which have incised panel fronts and a band of Greek frieze ornament, topped with simple pyramidal caps. The interior has not been seen.
