Description
The Bradford-on-Tone War Memorial is located near the churchyard and was built in the early 20th century. It features a rough hewn granite stone cross and shaft that rests on a tapering plinth. The cross head is designed in the style of a Celtic cross. The plinth has lead lettering inscriptions that read as follows: on the southeast face, "WE PRAY YOU TO REMEMBER THE MEN WHO LEFT THIS PARISH/WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918/AND THOSE WHO FELL IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR 1938-1945"; on the northwest face, "REST ETERNAL GRANT THEM O LORD"; and on the southwest (roadside) face, "FOR GOD, KING AND COUNTRY," along with a list of names of those who were killed in both wars. This memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the men of the parish during the First and Second World Wars and holds significant meaning for the local community.
