Description
Bradford Bridge is a road bridge over the River Tone, dating from the 15th century, with restorations completed in 1698 and further work in the late 19th century. It is constructed of random rubble local stone with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a two-arch span with four-centred arches that are chamfered in two orders. The soffits have been partly renewed in brick, and there is a central cutwater and a string course. The parapet has been renewed and includes chamfered roping. Although it is said to bear the date 1698 on the parapet, this was not visible during the survey in January 1985. The bridge is also designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument (Somerset County No 1041).
