Description
Drake's Place is a fine square house from the early to mid-18th century, located on the northwest side of Taunton Road. It features two storeys and a five-window front. The building has undergone alterations and additions, including stucco work, dormers, and an east porch, which appear to have been made in the mid-19th century. The original entrance is marked by a Doric porch, and there are Ionic pilasters supporting the window above. The cornice and parapets add to its architectural detail. Inside, there is at least one, and likely two more, very good early to mid-18th century panelled rooms that include fluted pilasters, an enriched ceiling, and shell and foliage carving on the overmantel and doorheads. Similar doorheads can be found in the hall, and there is a mid-19th century staircase.
