Description

The Farmers Arms is a dwelling that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to the 15th century and was enlarged in the 17th century, with alterations made in the mid-20th century. The building is rendered over cob and random rubble, featuring a hipped thatched roof with a brick stack on the right and a stone stack on the left. It is arranged in a northwest-southeast orientation, with the original 15th-century open hall house at the northern end, which was later ceiled and extended in the 17th century.

The structure has one and a half storeys and displays irregularly placed windows, all of which are from the 20th century, except for two 2-light mullioned dormers on the outer left. There are four dormer casements, with a catslide roof projecting over a bread oven located between the second and third dormers. A chamfered doorway is situated to the right, leading to a slightly recessed two-bay section that has a thatched gabled porch to the left and another casement to the right. There is also a larger thatched gabled porch that provides access to a buttressed addition, which is now used as a kitchen.

Inside, the entire ground floor has been opened up, except for the kitchen, which backs onto an open fireplace featuring a chamfered bressummer. The fireplace at the northern end was inserted into the open hall during the 17th century. The interior also includes chamfered beams with stops and exposed jointed crucks.
