Description
Ovingdean is a cottage located on Wootton Street, built in the late 18th to early 19th century, although its core may be older. The structure is made of coursed and squared rubble with a thatched roof, featuring one brick stack and one squat cylindrical rubble stack. It is designed in a picturesque cottage-ornee style, with the right return likely added later than the main part of the building.
The cottage has two storeys and a road frontage of three bays, with two-light casements on the ground floor, each having wooden lintels. The right return has a slightly different style, with a steeply sloping roof and overhanging eaves supported by "rustic" poles. It has one window on each floor, with a two-light casement in a dormer featuring thatch cut to form an "eyebrow" over a pointed head with Y-tracery. The ground floor has a three-light casement, where each light has a pointed-arch head and leaded lights. The door opening features a plank door. There is an unfortunate single-storey lean-to on the left side of the ground floor.
