Description
The Village Pump and wall is a 19th-century cast-iron pump located on the north side of Stoney Lane in Stocklinch. The pump features a circular shaft with two ring collars and a circular base plate. Its upper cylinder is of considerable diameter and includes a heavy cast-iron spout on the west side, which has a bucket hook and laurel leaf decoration, although the top is missing. There is a knob handle on the east side and a cast-iron trough on the west side. The backing wall is made of cut and squared local stone and is roughly semi-circular, featuring a semi-circular arched recess that is now blocked, which may have originally housed a spring. At the top of the wall is the bell hip cap from a former gate pier. The pump also displays a cast iron plaque for Hutchings, Plumer, Ilminster.
