Description
Crockers is a detached house, likely originating in the 15th century. It is constructed from ham stone rubble and features a thatched roof with plain gables and brick chimney stacks. The house is a single storey with an attic and consists of five bays. The windows include horizontal-bar casements, with two lights in bay 1, a 1+4+1-light square bay window with a stone tile roof in bay 3, and three-light and two-light windows in bays 3 and 4, respectively, all having timber lintels. Above bay 4, there is a swept dormer with a matching two-light window, and a small leaded casement above bay 2. Bay 3 has a chamfered triangular-arched doorframe made of massive timbers, which contains an old door and has a projection with an oven to the right.
Although the interior was not seen, it was described before a restoration in the 1970s as containing two jointed cruck trusses of a very early type, along with traces of a post and truss frame. It also had a 16th-century fireplace with a smoke hood, a newel staircase with plank and muntin partitions, and a 16th-century back window frame with kneeled stops. The hall ceiling featured four panels, while the west room had a ceiling of four by four panels. There is evidence of cob in the back wall, along with another heavy doorframe and two internal doorways that match.
