Description
Eleigh Bridge is a road bridge built in 1800, spanning the River Isle and adjacent water meadows. It is constructed from random rubble chert stone with Bath stone dressings and measures about 120 meters in length. The bridge features a small single arch at the southeastern end over the River Isle, which has a semi-circular head surrounded by ashlar and a keystone. It has flat coping, quoins, and retaining walls that curve back to newels, with drainage pipes integrated into the retaining wall. The bridge was erected by the Ilchester Turnpike Trust.
